The 2025 National Museum Collection Plus has begun at the Nagano Prefectural Art Museum.
This is a themed exhibition that adds works from the National Museum of Art to the collections of art museums in each area, in order to enrich opportunities for viewing art in the region.
Exhibition name:
Marcel Duchamp + MATSUZAWA Yutaka - The Emergence and Vanishing of Objects –
Date:
August 2 – October 7, 2025
Venue:
Nagano Prefectural Art Museum(1-4-4 Hakoshimizu, Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture Japan)
Marcel Duchamp separated mass-produced objects from their original uses and presented them as works of art under the name of "objects." Matsuzawa Yutaka, a native of Suwa, Nagano Prefecture, was inspired by this idea, but instead attempted to eliminate the "object" and turn the concept itself into a work of art. This exhibition compares these two artists, who have had a significant influence on the development of contemporary art, through the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto and the Nagano Prefectural Art Museum.
The National Museum Collection Plus began last year at the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts. This year, the number of exhibitions has been increased to three. The Nagano Prefectural Art Museum is the second in the series, and the exhibition will also be held at the Kushiro Art Museum, Hokkaido (November 1st to December 14th, 2025).
