The Beginning of Contemporary Photography and Beyond
The 2025 National Museum Collection Plus has begun at the Kushiro Art Museum, Hokkaido.
This is a themed exhibition that adds works from the National Museum of Art to the collections of art museums in each area, in order to enrich opportunities for viewing art in the region.

Kushiro Art Museum, Hokkaido has a rich collection of postwar Japanese photography, including works by Narahara Ikko and Moriyama Daido.To this collection, we will add photographs by Robert Frank and William Klein from the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, to trace the development of contemporary photographic expression. Robert Frank and William Klein were pioneers of postwar American photography and had a major influence in Japan as well.
The National Museum Collection Plus began last year at the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts. This year, the number of venues has been increased to three. Kushiro Art Museum, Hokkaido is the third in the series.
