NCAR TALK 003: Artists’ and Curator’s Talk on Les Rencontres d'Arles 2024
NCAR Talk aims to create a space for open dialogue with participants under a single theme by inviting guests each time in order to familiarize and learn more about the various activities of the National Center for Art Research (NCAR).
NCAR TALK 003 invites Amada Marina, who curated the exhibition "Reflection - 11/03/11," a program of "Les Rencontres internationales de la photographie d'Arles (Les Rencontres d'Arles)" and participating artists Iwane Ai and Fujii Hikaru. "Reflection" was selected for NCAR’s “FY2024 Term I Artist Support Program” and was held from July 1 to September 30, 2024.
"Les Rencontres d'Arles" is the world’s leading photography festival, founded in 1970. "Les Rencontres d'Arles 2024" featured 23 programs in total with a special focus on Japanese photographic art. "Reflection - 11/03/11," co-curated by Amada Marina and Philippe Séclier, focused on the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster of March 11, 2011. This group exhibition featured works by nine photographers and artists. Other Japan-themed exhibitions included "I'm So Happy You Are Here," which showcased Japanese female photographers from the 1950s to the present, and "TRANSCENDENCE," presenting works by six female artists.
This NCAR Talk provides a rare opportunity to learn about the practices of the Arles, and to hear directly from the curator and participating artists about the show. If you wish to participate, please register from the "Registration Form" below.
