Leadership Training for Teachers and Curators to Enhance Art Museum-based Learning is a training that National Museum of Art has held annually since 2006 for teachers from elementary, junior-high and high schools, teachers’ consultants and museum curators from all over Japan. As the era has transitioned to Reiwa, the growing complexity of modern society has boosted the significance of ability to ponder nurtured by art and appreciation of it.
The training was organized in Osaka for the first time in 2019 and was held online in 2021.

At each milestone of 10 or 15 years, we have organized symposia to reevaluate the roles and attainment of our training on art museum-based learning conducted in collaboration between museums and schools. Discussion of leading experts in the field has provided us with enlightening opportunities to assess what we have completed thus far in the context of the domestic and international movement in art museum-based learning.

Web-based reports: 2011 – 2018

From the sixth year since the beginning of our training, we shifted the format from booklets to web-based ones, leaving behind meaningful records annually. The preparation of our trainings is done by a tightknit team of educational researchers from the National Museum of Art, broadening the venue such as The National Museum of Western Art and The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. We highly encourage you to read “Staff Voices” from a report of each year.

Booklets: 2006 – 2010

In the initial five years, we held three-day trainings. Except for the inaugural year, 2006, those trainings of rich contents were recorded in the form of booklets. In addition to the booklet reports, we compiled our training programs into a booklet titled “Review of the Past Five Years” in 2010.
