Craft and Design in Modern European Applied Arts

The 2026 National Museum Collection Plus has begun at the Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum.

This is a themed exhibition that adds works from the National Museum of Art to the collections of art museums in each area, in order to enrich opportunities for viewing art in the region.

We have focused on Europe from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century—a period that exerted a profound influence on the nature of modern and contemporary Japanese crafts. This exhibition traces the diverse evolution of modern European craft by showcasing works by artists such as Émile Gallé and Lucie Rie from the Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum, alongside pieces by Christopher Dresser, A.M. Cassandre, and others from the National Crafts Museum.

"National Museum Collection Plus" will be held at three venues again this fiscal year. The Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum is the first of these.
