Leadership Training for Teachers and Curators to Enhance Art Museum-Based Learning

This program has concluded in FY2025.

This training program ran for 20 years, from 2006 to 2025, and was held each summer for two days at national art museums in Tokyo or the Kansai region. It was designed for teachers, museum curators, and art education supervisors recommended by prefectural boards of education. The program aimed to develop professionals in art appreciation education and to promote cooperation between schools and museums, with its outcomes shared and applied across local educational settings.

    Program Overview

The sessions as below held in the training program.

    • Group Work

We split the participants in groups so that the teachers, museum curators and supervisors are mixed, and hold a workshop in the museum gallery. The participants experience looking at art through dialogue and share ideas with people who have different backgrounds. Through the workshop, they discuss deeply about how children can engage with art.

    • World Café

In the last session of the two days, participants review and discuss what they have learned through the training program and then think about what they can do from tomorrow when they return to their fields.

    • Lecture

We hold lectures under various themes, such as “Engaging Art at Schools” or “Art in Social Issues”.

    • Case Study Presentations

We introduce good practices of children engaging with art, which are held in museums or schools.
