Learning Resources

We develop educational materials that treat works of art in museums and a range of other content as learning resources, and are designed for educational use. Through materials such as Art Cards featuring various artworks and digital appreciation materials compatible with ICT environments, we aim to make art and museums accessible and facilitate encounters with art.​

    Art Cards

    The National Museum of Art "Art Cards" are educational materials designed to foster the capacity to view, experience, and communicate through works of art. The set consists of 65 works of art carefully selected from the National Museum of Art collections to foster lively conversation. These versatile cards can be used not only in classrooms, but also in various settings such as business training sessions.

    How to Use

    The Art Cards hold a small booklet to guide how to play with them and describes the artworks, so anyone can easily start! The booklet is available in Japanese.

    Where to Rent or Purchase

    At the National Art Research Center, we offer the lending of ʻArt Card Setsʼ (application required). We encourage their use not only in educational institutions but also in training and activities at medical and welfare facilities, NPOs, and other non-profit organizations.
    The lending scope is limited to within domestic area.

    The Art Cards is sold at the Museum Shops listed below. To support children's education, we also provide The Art Cards for free for teachers to use at school.

    Online Toolbox for Enjoying Museum Collections

    This digital tool is designed to utilize artworks from the National Museum of Art in elementary to high school classes. It enables the projection of high-definition images of works on electronic blackboards, distribution to tablets, and creation of worksheets for classroom use. The website is in Japanese.

    Social Story

    "Social Story: My First Art Museum Visit" is a museum guide primarily for persons with developmental disabilities and those who support them. It provides clear and easy-to-understand explanations to help people with developmental disabilities, first-time museum visitors, and anyone who may feel anxious about visiting feel comfortable and enjoy their time at the museum.​

    Enjoying Museum Collections with Sign Language

    This video series is a tool for learning about and enjoying artworks in Japanese Sign Language. Not only for people who use JSL as mother tongue, but anyone who wants to know about the collections of museums can enjoy the videos and make their first step to visit!
