    Program Overview

NCAR’s Artist Support Program is a set of strategic initiatives designed to strengthen the global presence of contemporary Japanese art.

First, we invite directors and curators of major international exhibitions from abroad to Japan, supporting their research on Japanese artists, site visits, and opportunities for dialogue with relevant professionals. Second, we provide financial support—through organizing institutions—for Japanese artists participating in international exhibitions such as biennales and triennales. In addition, we produce and publishes interview videos with participating artists, archiving and sharing insights into their creative processes and practices in order to enhance the visibility of their activities and sustain their international presence.

By organically linking these three initiatives, the program fosters a positive cycle that supports and expands artists’ international activities.
