Awareness Surveys

NCAR conducts various surveys with the aim of broadly understanding public awareness of art and museums. To support related discussions, analyses, and research on art, we make some of the survey results available for use.

    Use of Survey Results

    If you wish to quote or reproduce the survey results, please contact us in advance at the address below. When making an inquiry, please provide the following four points:

    1. Your name and affiliation
    2. The survey results you intend to quote or reproduce
    3. Where the results will be published
    4. The publication date (or the release date of the medium in which the data will appear)

    Please note that, depending on the content, we may not be able to grant permission for quotation or reproduction.

    Museum Awareness Surveys

    The National Museums of Art have been conducting Museum Awareness Surveys continuously since 2015 with the aim of broadly understanding public awareness of art museums. To support various related discussions and analyses, we make part of the survey results publicly available.

    <Survey Overview>

    • Survey Method: Internet-based surveys were conducted in both the Kanto and Kansai regions using an online survey panel provided by a private research company.
    • Survey Design: As a screening survey (primary survey), 8,000 samples were collected in each of the Kanto and Kansai regions.

    Thematic Survey Report

    Survey on Awareness of Art and Museums Among Younger Generations (Japanese Only)

    NCAR conducted an online survey in 2024 to assess awareness of museums and art in general among younger generations. The survey targeted 1,800 individuals aged 15 to 25 living in the Kanto and Kansai regions. A selection of the survey results is made publicly available. (Japanese Only)
